You have tried tapping the glass in front of the gauge like we used to in The Olden Days?

I once cured a sticking fuel gauge in a Mini by running it almost dry and then filling it to the brim. The gush of fuel from bottom to top seemed to free the float arm and it worked fine for ever after. On a modern car, not so likely to happen, I suppose.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.
