            Hi
 Thanks for your reply.
What do you feel about the mechanic saying a little bit of diesel wouldn't do much harm??0

My wife said RAC say this is not part of the free service (draining out fuel). Do you think I should ring RAC to complain and ask for the £200 back?
No, don't bother. Your wife is right. I filled my diesel car with petrol a couple of years ago (from empty to full, ouch) when I was many miles from home. I assumed the RAC would sort me out, but all they were prepared to do was arrange transport to a garage. The garage drained the tank and got the car going, cost to me of about £250.
It's in the T&Cs, so read the small print. And I am no longer with the RAC.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0

I'd also suggest getting a filler cap with neon lights stating what type of fuel.0

I still don't understand how you can put diesel into a petrol car from a UK filling station, unless you used a can or the car was very old and manufactured before differential size inlets for fuel became standardised.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

It might be worth mentioning here that the restriction in the filler neck on petrol cars was never intended to prevent diesel fuel being put into petrol cars, but was only ever intended to prevent leaded petrol being put into cars with a catalytic converter. The fact it makes putting diesel into petrols more difficult is a side benefit.iolanthe07 wrote: »or the car was very old and manufactured before differential size inlets for fuel became standardised.0

A mate of mine's father kept putting the wrong fuel into his car. My mate eventually made him a sticker to put next to the filler flap, reading "It's Diesel, you t!t".I'd also suggest getting a filler cap with neon lights stating what type of fuel.
Made a few folk smile as they passed, and he didn't do it again. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0
