Diamond Car Insurance Warning

A word of warning when buying a car insurance policy online with Diamond Car insurance. Yesterday, I took out a policy for my daughter & paid £1500 in full. When I received the policy by email, it had been put in my name instead of my daughters because I had used my card. I called Diamond straight away & was told that I could not change a name, I needed to cancel the policy & take out again. This would involve refunding my card, having to wait 3 days till funds back in bank & starting again. Policy not needed for a week so not too much of a problem.
Customer service say, I have been told incorrect information & I can amend the name. The next email I had still showed the wrong name. After spending a long time on the phone at 8p a minute, the agent said she would send yet another email which I never received.
This morning, still not email so I ring to cancel the policy as per 14 day cooling off period as I am concerned policy still in wrong name.
Agent advises I can cancel, card will be refunded, less a £25 admin fee for a policy that has not even started yet !
On checking the small print, it does state 14 day cooling off period but if we cancel you will be charged £25 for admin fees ! the only thing they have done is send me an incorrect policy & charge my card £1500, so that costs £25 does it ?
I am going to try & speak to a UK call centre tomorrow but wondered if anyone else had similar problems with car insurances.

How can they change the policy holder/main driver, surely that's what the risk is calculated on?0

My wifes policy has been with diamond for years, i'm not a named driver on her policy but we pay with my debit card and we haven't had this problem at all.0

But have you claimed? Then and only then will you know if they are good or bad.0

Not Diamond, but with other Admiral group companies, I have paid for my brother's, dad's and wife's car insurance policies on my card. The details have come through in the right name (the policy holder's, not mine).
The only disadvantage is my card is on their record for auto renewal.
I suspect that they cannot change the name on a policy entirely, only for spelling errors and such.
So refund and restart is correct. But, I would be insisting they waive the charge if it was not mentioned anywhere that the policy will come from the payment card used rather than the details entered previous (as this does not make any sense whatsoever).0 -
The important bit is who made the error, them or you?0

My point was that the charge seemed unfair when the policy had not even started & I was told incorrect information initially. I was happy to let the company amend the policy & continue with it but the amended policy was still wrong & I started to lose confidence in them. However, it was an Indian call centre on a Sunday that applied the charges & have spoken to UK call centre this morning & they have very kindly agreed to refund the £25. Faith in mankind restored !0
