Can I cancel a non refundable hotel booking?

Hi,

This is my first time using the forum so apologies if this is in the wrong section or there is already a thread on this - I have searched for one!

I have made a hotel only reservation with boutixury.com to go to Greece in September, the balance is due to paid by mid August.

Unfortunately our financial situation has changed and I really can't afford to pay for this holiday :(

It does state that is is non refundable booking (I have only paid £25 deposit) but does anyone know if there's any way i could cancel this reservation without having to pay the balance? Or has anyone had any luck in a similar situation? What would happen if I didn't pay? I don't really want debt collectors turning up at my door but as I said I don't know how im going to pay for the booking :(

Any help appreciated!

Bella :)

They normally have some sort of criteria about what proportion you need to pay depending on how close to the departure date you are when you cancel. Have a look through their terms and conditions to see what they say.

    "Cancellations
Nobody wants to cancel plans, but if you do need to then please email us: bookings@boutixury.com
We can advise any cancellation charges that will apply - we are often able to carry any deposit over to another booking you want to make within the next 12 months.
Cancellations made more than 28 days before arrival will normally incur a loss of deposit. Cancellations made within 28 days will incur a higher charge, and therefore as soon as you think you may have to cancel you should check with us and we can advise costs."

Looks like you might be ok.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Thanks for your reply! Yes I have seen that on their website actually, but then it states on my booking confirmation that if I choose to cancel I will have to pay the full balance :(
Also in another section (terms and conditions rather than FAQs) it says the following

"Some rooms are classified as “Non-refundable” and therefore these rooms will incur a 100% cancellation charge."

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and hope for the best!

It's a fairly clear condition that you're liable for the full amount.

Many holiday insurance policies will reimburse you in case of redundancy. What does your insurance policy say?
