car insurance cost after caught with no insurance

At the end of May I flew home from Japan after being away at sea for 3.5 months, I knew that my car insurance had been due renewal while I was away but this had happened before and the broker had renewed it if I did not respond to their new quote.
Looked through a pile of mail (still jet lagged) and found what I thought was a new cover note, thought I must check how much more they charged this time as it was always more if you don't have a chance to shop around.
13 days later got stopped by a police car about 100 yards from my home saying was showing no insurance on his scanner, took him in the house and showed him the supposed cover note to which he said it's not it's just a renewal note.
Anyway months passed and I finally got a court date which is soon, I know I have to plead guilty and 6 to 8 points and a fine if I'm lucky but how will this effect my insurance cost.
a) know it was stupid not to check before driving
b) could have been a disaster if I had had an accident to me and the other parties.
c) Never had anything like this before in 48 years of driving just a few sp30 all cleared and as I have now retired it can't happen again.
So anyone had a similar problem and how was their car insurance affected.
The reason the broker did not renew was I paid in full last time, not monthly and they could not take the money as before from my account

The problem with that is that a lot of people forgot they'd OKd auto-renewal, and complained when they found themselves double-insured and overdrawn. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.but how will this effect my insurance cost.
Play with a meerkat. It really is the only way to find out, bearing all your other factors into account. Get a quote without, then edit it and add the IN10 in.0
