making yogurt- but lactose free?

morning all
I have just been diagnose with IBS and the consultant recommended I try a special diet to see if it helps. The diet (FODMAP) cuts out huge swathes of food types- amongst them cows and sheeps milk and some other dairy foods. Rice milk (fairly expensive) is ok but wondered is it possible to make yogurt using this? i thought soya milk was acceptable but just chceked the diet and its not
I have made it loads of times using UHT. If I add some starter culture do you think it would have to be from a lactose free starter? or if i used ordinary yogurt for the amount being used be ok as its spread throughout the whole thing?? any peoples thoughts would be great

I wouldn't be risking any kind of dairy culture.
