There's a Co-Op and numerous other local shop's and Spar shops at both petrol stations on Ladas Drive and Ravenhill road....... More than enough shops for the "locals".... if they want a decent for the Big shop Tesco's they can go to Castlereagh Road or Newtownbreda ....0 -
Where I live both the Castlereagh one and Newtownbreda one are both closer and bigger than the nearest Asda (Dundonald) but we still go there for our weekly shop: cheaper, better quality (meat and fruit & veg) and they're not busily collecting lots of data on me and my family in return for a few pence in points0

To be honest the Co.op is a dear hole! The one at Rosetta seems to have things 3 times the price than other places. If something on offer you have to check the small bar code to make sure its the right items as the number of times overcharged at the till. My major bug is the Pepsi, so its on offer apart from the Max, so what the hell is the difference??? Pepsi is Pepsi yet very very rarely is the Max included in the offer. Every other place has all Pepsi included in offers. I was even told once that an offer I saw on UTV for an item, was only for England!!!
Rant over.
The only time I go to the Tesco is for their 25p 2 litre sparkling water.
The MACE is no longer a MACE but a Today store.0 -
Someone told me a while back that Tesco were going to open a new Express store near the Knock Road/Upper Newtownards Road junction, where the old Gilpins Furniture shop was.
And according to this application: Z/2014/1274/A that may be happening!0 -
The Tesco at Gilpin's was half completed, then shelved. They are now finishing the building and have a To Let sign up and the agent letting it is..........TescoNorn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

Can't see Tesco opening any new store in NI for the foreseeable.
They also have one for university street (Z/2013/1271/F), can't see that happening anytime soon.0 -

It is and it isn't. Tesco's plan was always to close Connswater and Cregagh following Castlereagh road opening. They initially planned to relinquish the lease in Connswater immediately but once Asda had indicated an interest in taking it over, Tesco converted the store into something small enough that they didn't have to immediately close it.
Now that they are trying to close the less profitable stores anyway, and none of the other big chains are really expanding, it's more likely that the Connswater site will be left to rot, or be turned into an M&S or something suitably downmarket.
Tesco Cregagh was always due to be closed in 2015 or 2016 with the option open to totally gut and renovate the store into a Tesco Express. It's a horrible site though with next to no parking. Will probably get turned into flats.0 -

The last time I drove past the sign said the 1st floor above Tesco was to let so I presumed it was still going ahead. Stupid place to put one what with one less than a mile down the road near North Road and another on Belmont Road.0 -
Tesco have stopped all building so doubt any new stores will be popping up. As for Connswater without another big name food store it may well be difficult for it to survive.0
