New build with no phone line!!!

  • We moved into a new build property in Scotland at the beginning of October and didn't get our phone line in until mid January for the same reasons you state.

I am surprised that your builder would agree to put lines in as phone line wasn't part of our utilities to the property. The line was there but not connected. It was BT openreach we were waiting for.

Our service provider was BT for phone and broadband and at the start of the cancelled engineer appointments etc I advised I was going to cancel however the lady on the phone told me that whoever my service provider was wouldn't change the situation as it would still be Openreach to sort the lines out.

So I stopped getting angry and just calmly escalated my complaint with BT until I got through to a very helpful woman in the complaints team who could tell me exactly what was going on and I could get through to her directly.

Openreach unfortunately have the monopoly on lines in the UK and currently cannot keep up. If you get a line by February I think you will be pretty lucky to be honest as I know people that have been waiting a lot longer!

Push your phone/broadband provider but don't get mad at them as their hands are completely tied.

If you look on BBC Watchdog site there was a piece on Openreach not too long ago.

You can also input your details here:

    http://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home/contactus/newhomes/newhomes.do

And openreach should get back to you!
What's fur ye won't go by ye!
