Weights and Measures

This from Derbyshire CC, I assume that other LAs act in a similar way.

We make sure that all weighing and measuring equipment used for trade is accurate.
What we do
  • We inspect all premises which use weighing and measuring equipment. These can range from shop scales to pub spirit measures, and petrol pumps to road and rail weighbridges.
  • We test and pass most new or repaired equipment before it is used for trade.
  • We investigate complaints where a customer has received "short measure" or where inaccurate equipment is used.
  • We carry out visits to all manufacturers, packers and importers in Derbyshire. During these visits packages are checked, equipment tested and quality systems audited.
  • We give advice and assistance to all Derbyshire businesses to make sure that they abide by Weights and Measures legislation.
Are nor ANPR recognition cameras measuring devices used for trade? Are not ticket machines the same?

If the answer is yes, why are not more people questioning their accuracy. If a publican waters the beer he/she is fort the high jump, why not PPCs?
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

There are no standards for accuracy required for private parking.

The police require the cameras they use to be correct 93.1% of the time.

It is obviously of benefit to PPCs for the cameras to be as accurate as possible...except for double dipping cases, where they can use misreads to generate extra revenue.

But are they not measuring devices used for trade? If so then, standards or not, it would appear that, if asked by a consumer, the LA has a duty to test them.

I would say that makes perfect sense, but of course sense does not matter in PPC land.
