Rayburn range cooker service

Hi all.
I've bought a house that has a Rayburn range cooker. The model is Nouvelle Gas, apparently this model goes way back to 1987. It does heating/hot water and is also a cooker. As the name suggests it runs off the gas. The previous owner had a service arranged every year but looking at the paperwork it costs 225 with VAT. Shocked at the price.
I was thinking of getting a care plan from Npower/British Gas that has the service built in. But it seems they don't cover Rayburns.
Any care plans that would cover service and breakdowns? Also would a normal Gas Safe engineer be able to carry out Gas Safety check on it?

Many rural counties have local service engineers that work on such cookers.
Where about's are you ? Aga have many engineers up and down the country but you will obviously pay a premium for them. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
In London believe it or not. Why it was put in instead of a normal boiler and cooker I don't know. But it does look nice in the kitchen.
I'm going to phone a few more local gas engineers but first impressions are that they charge double a normal boiler service. Because it's so old I'm worried of it breaking down so I was gutted that British Gas home care doesn't cover it. Was interested to find out if there's any other companies that would cover it for a monthly fee.0 -
Where are you in London?
The closest independent Aga / Rayburn agent to London is John Cooper & Sons based in Chelmsford and Hertford. They do service work in London, but I think really only North London.
At that age of cooker though you may be better off considering a replacement in the not too distant future. As a new efficient boiler and separate cooker would I'm sure save on all the bills.
