Wouldn't unlocking void the warranty?
Also, if, for some reason I couldn't unlock it, I'd have wasted my money.
Even if it were true, I would prefer it to being intensely stupid.
If per chance, someone was so thick that they couldn't unlock it...and believe me, they would have to be thick, they could take it back for a refund.
As to the warranty...the seller would have no idea that you unlocked it. Do you think that the units sold by Amazon are any different? They state that they have been unlocked.
Now, at least try not to demonstrate such a lack of forethought before posting. I won't always be logged on in order to take up the slack for you.
Umm..let me think.... late model 4G modem for £20 or a three year old 3G modem for £40....can't decide.
Wakey wakey!
Ignorance is bliss... eh?0 -

Will it work with a foreign 3G PAYG sim?
Yes. Both 3G and 4G.Downloads up to 150Mbps; Uploads up to 50Mbps
2G: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G: 850/900/1800/2100 MHz
4G: 800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz
So you decided to pay double the amount for an inferior 3G modem. Good job nickcc. Martin would be proud. :money::eek:0 -
Remember you won't get unlimited data with current tethering packages. I also believe you're going to find international roaming data somewhat more limited that at home, regardless of hardware choice. You may still be happier with a local data sim when international.0

OK, so I collected the MIFI unit from the post office this morning.
Just set it up and it works fine. No problems getting it working. I've already set up my Desktop and Laptop.
One thing. The instructions suggest changing the SSID and Encryption Key, from the default.
Given the unit is brand new (arrived in a sealed box, with a temper evident seal label), do I really need to change them?0 -

Depends on how worried you are about security and how much you trust the process the manufacturer used to set the password. Once manufacturers got past the stage of shipping units with no default password, some ADSL routers were programmed with an SSID and password derived from the unit's serial number, so it was possible to guess the password from the SSID. This is probably not be the case here though.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
It's on PAYG so, even if someone did manage to access it, they can only use whatever data allowance happens to be on it.
On a slightly different matter, I noticed the signal strength was a lot poorer (only 2 to 3 bars) on the Desktop, compared to the (5 bars) on the laptop.
Then I released the network adapter is at the back of the Desktop, putting a lot of metal between it and the MIFI unit, which is sitting on the window ledge.
A 1 metre USB extension has solved the problem. :cool:0 -
Just a thought for anyone after a mi-fi
I have had one of these for a few years now, working fine. I use it with a t-mobile (EE) sim, like this Other suppliers available. At the end of 6 months you can add anther 6 months for £20. Rarelly get to the fair usage for the month, but it does still keep working, just limits what you can do.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -

No need to waste your money in paying £28, when you can get the same thing direct (for the first six months) for £15.99.
If you run a search through my posts, you'll find the info.0
