Dodgy print on pay and display ticket, PCN issued

I was out last night and parked in a bay at 17:35 that was free after 18:00. I bought a 30 minute ticket from the pay and display machine near the bays and put it in the window of my car. I was quite annoyed when I got back to the car later to find that a PCN had been issued at 17:51 alleging that I had parked in the bay without either a residents' permit or valid pay and display ticket.

I was really annoyed that a PCN had been issued when I had a 'paid and displayed' but then I looked closer at the pay and display ticket and noticed that the print on it was a bit dodgy - you could clearly see the '18' part of the time and the '15' at the end of the date, but the printer must have been a bit off because the other print across the middle of the ticket is quite feint and you have to look really closely to see the rest of the time and the date. It was dark out on a not particularly well lit street so I'm guessing the warden didn't look that closely - admittedly I didn't either when I bought the ticket and put it in the window. I was meeting someone and running late and tbh didn't think that much of it - the correct time had come up on the machine when I put the money in so I assumed the ticket would be correct/acceptable.

I'm guessing that if I appeal and send them a scan of my pay and display ticket and the photo I took showing it affixed inside the windscreen that the PCN will be cancelled? Or is there a chance that they'll say the PCN stands because the pay and display ticket is not easy to read? The pay and display ticket has a serial number along the side (which is easily read) so will they be able to check that and confirm the time/date that I paid?

If this was a council issued ticket, please follow the advice below. If it was a private parking charge, please tell us the name of the parking company.
As we tend to major on private parking tickets here, PePiPoo will be your best bet for council tickets. Here's your link:

Have a read through some of the other threads there before you post your own to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need photos/scans of all correspondence you've received from the council (both sides, if appropriate).

PePiPoo has an excellent success record in dealing with council tickets.

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
