Docking Wages for Lateness

Girlfriend has just been given a contract and I noticed a section about lateness.

Their rules are:
- 5 minutes late, 15 minutes docked
- 10 minutes late, 30 minutes docked
- 15 minutes late, 45 minutes docked
- >15 minutes late, disciplinary action

She will not be on minimum wage, just over, but is this legal? Obviously best bet is just to turn up on time :rotfl:

I didn't think they could make deductions which would take you below NMW but I could be wrong...

In these days of Tory rule, they can do as they like.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • When I worked in A&E as a porter my company would dock money automatically as we finger printed in and out. People were getting called to give an account for signing in late but the amount of times I clocked out late due to an emergency job and youve guess it I was never paid any over time. I even said to my supervisor will I have to give an account for signing out late. I loved that job but its what you have to contend with.

    Obviously.

Has your imaginary GF considered what might happen if she turns up 5 minutes late & thinks "hey, I'm not getting paid for the next 10mins" & therefore makes herself 15mins late?

Would making herself 15mins late qualify for a dock in pay of 45mins?

Would waiting 'till those 45mins were up qualify her for a whole days wages to be docked?

My mind boggles, it really does.

Whilst it is important to be disciplined enough to turn up for work when work starts, it is not worth working with people who will dock your pay, simply because every employee is to be considered a retard . . . Even the wages clerk who cannot deduct 3mins & needs a whole 25%, 1/4 of an hour, a full five fingers etc. etc. etc

    I am !!!!!! gobsmacked that Martins MSE has lowered itself to this . . . . .!

Sounds a bit crazy. How do they work it out like that?

And a disciplinary for being late more than 15 minutes? I've never heard of such a thing. Surely it depends if there was a valid reason, like traffic, missed bus, car breaking down etc?

Depends what for though surely, being late once by 15 minutes then a disciplinary is very harsh.

Being late multiple times and being late on the last after eating in a restaurant and being spotted by your boss and then lying...

    All disciplinarys are harsh.

If I was disciplined for being late after eating in a restaurant & being spotted by my boss . . . then I would gladly accept all that was coming to me.

Why is my boss spotting me in restaurant when we both should be working?
