I run a similar set.
Monitor on DVI and TV via HDMI. I run Kodi (formally XBMC) as my media software.
The PC sees the TV and monitor as 2 separate screens and offers audio controls for both.
Before you splash out. Can you bring the tv and PC close enough to test with your existing HDMI cables?
I cant matey, my tv is a 50 incher and other side of room that is why I would need a 20 metre HDMI cableAll the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -
what about the PC?
No need for internet to test. just power up the pc to test the screens

Are you playing video files downloaded to your computer, and are you using the (very beta) screencast feature to send them across at present?0
-
The screencasting a couple of you are having problems with is
a) in Beta, so not a final product, as bsms1147 says
b) tough on the computer doing the casting. You'll want a pretty modern computer with a graphics card to do it, ideally, and if you've got fast moving, HD video, that's tough on the computer and the network.0 -
ive tried both screencasts, the original one plus the Beta one. both are about the same. I have a GT 630 Nvidia card with a HDMI socket. I have fibre broadband too. I use XBMC and another streaming movie site.
I have bought a twin HDMI splitter/switch and a 10m HDMI cable off Ebay so when that comes I can connect all this up and see if thats better. If better just sell the Chromecast as its been more trouble than worth. Not as good as I thought it was going to be.All the big powers they've silenced me. Using a splitter may cause issues.
You have one resolution split over 2 different screen with different resolutions.
Using DVI and HDMI means you can split the displays and set the resolutions.0
