Calas de Mallorca (Area of Majorca) - Cheap but Nice Hotels? & Long Transfers?

I've got our flights booked for Majorca (mid/end August) and are splitting our 11 days there between 2 hotels. At the moment we are planning around 5 nights at the Sol Katmandu in Magaluf and the rest at another hotel.

The cheapest all Inclusive hotels seem to be around the Calas de Mallorca Area but the Tripadvisor reviews are so mixed we are not sure how good/bad they really are, has anybody any recommendations?

Also there are several horror stories of transfers taking several hours form the airport to Calas de Mallorca, is this true or is that just on package holidays? The transfer company's quote 90 minutes but then charge double for 'speedy' transfers which are only quoted as being 10 minutes quicker?

  • A transfer from Palma airport to Calas would take about an hour. Would not think it would be an awful lot different from Magaluf. Have not been to Calas for many years but remember it was a steep windy road down to the beach which was not a huge beach. There are nicer east coast resorts such as Cala Dor, Cala Millor, Sa Coma. Good Luck

i was there about 4 years ago and there wasnt much there to do, the beaches were down a big hill or a long walk and not that big, and there wasnt that much in the small town few bars and resturants - if you headed towards the hotel america area then you could do boat trips

saying that i would go back again, it was pretty nice if you didnt mind being not doing much outwith the hotels
  • We stayed in this resort last year. I booked the transfers myself and was quoted a transfer time of 90 mins. On the way there it took 2 hours and on the way back to the airport it took 2 hours 45 mins.
