Equifax credit score

Hiya, I've recently checked my credit via Equifax. It says I have a poor score of 364 even though my last default payment was 58 months ago. At the time I was unemployed and settled my credit card at an offer that MBNA made me of £2000 when balance was £4000. Since then I have got a new credit card with capital one and I run the account really well...I only use under 10% of my credit that's available and have never defaulted and payed off large chunks at a time. My payment conduct assessment on my report is red and I would like this to change as it's been nearly 5 years since I defaulted and I would like to improve my score and chances of getting credit....any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!!

Your ability to get new credit will continue to be affected until the defaults have fallen off your credit file (6years after the default date shown on file).
Having some newer accounts that are paid on time will help you get accepted by some lenders, but some are likely to continue to refuse to do business with you until the defaulted accounts have dropped off your file.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thank you very much Tixy. It's so frustrating being penalised for something that happened 5 years ago when my accounts have been run well since.
Do you know if there is anything else in the meantime that will help improve my rating please? Thanks so much...0
