Can I change supplier when moving house?

I've just moved into my house and took meter readings on the day I moved in. Do I have to give this to the previous owner's energy supplier first before switching or can I set up a new account with different supplier and give them the meter readings???
Thanks!
Thanks!

Thanks!
You are on a Deemed Contract with the existing supplier. You need to contact the existing supplier with the readings (but keep them in a safe place for future reference) and your contact details. When that is done, then you can apply to switch to your supplier of choice.
The existing supplier will bill you at its standard variable rate for all energy used up until the date of the actual transfer of supply - about 17 days (if you are lucky) after you apply to switch. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
