Need help with Halifax application and Quidco

Hi, I clicked through Quidco to open an account with Halifax. I went through the application but when I got to the last page I realised it hasn't asked me for any bank details of the account I wanted to switch from, so before completing the last page I closed it down.

I have now went on to apply again, I clicked through Quidco again and then went to the switch page this time and entered my details. When it came to Halifax deciding if I could have an account it said I have already applied for one so can't have another.

I didn't complete the final page of the application so an account shouldn't have gone through and it hasn't tracked on Quidco.
Was I right in thinking that it should have asked for my bank details to do a switch?
Not sure what to do now?

Not necessarily. The Quidco T&Cs are very straightforward...if you qualify for the £100 you also by default qualify for the £40...provided Quidco can be clearly attributed with the sale (delete cookies etc prior to applying). So you could have opened then switched and still got both.

You would've been credit checked when it was 'checking your application' so by closing it down before completion it's a wasted application.
I have now went on to apply again, I clicked through Quidco again and then went to the switch page this time and entered my details. When it came to Halifax deciding if I could have an account it said I have already applied for one so can't have another.

If you closed the application before 'fulfillment' (i.e. before it set the account up) then you need to wait for the other application to drop off the system - it should do that after a few days.
I didn't complete the final page of the application so an account shouldn't have gone through and it hasn't tracked on Quidco.

You'll get two Halifax Quidco applications tracking tomorrow morning even though they're both invalid as what triggers the cashback tracking is completing the form right at the start when you click through Quidco. Both of course should eventually be declined by Halifax.

Did the application refer you to branch and give you a sort code and account number or did you close it on the select a branch page or the income details page and never got as far as it setting up?

No you weren't right. With the Lloyds Banking Group system (Halifax) you can't switch until the account is open. On the last page of the application after the account is opened (fulfillment) there is a link to complete the switching form which can also be accessed separate from the application.
  • Thanks, I closed it on the select a branch page I think, definitely didn't get an account number. I was following the completion stages along the top and as I was on the last stage and still nowhere to put bank details in I thought I must have done it wrong.
I'll wait a few days and try again.

  • It only takes 24 hours for incomplete applications to be removed from Halifaxs system, know because my first application crashed. Unfortunately even if you apply the next day youll have two credit checks.
