They sent me a new pushbutton. They claimed the old one had failed when I sent it back, but both pushbuttons behaved identically in the same position on the doorframe.

Confusion arises due to the fact that on the first push it will always work in almost any position, which is presumably the test they carry out in the factory. However after several days the system fails for some reason unless a strong signal is consistently received. This I guess is the reason its working now, being fixed on the door rather than the surrounding frame.

I bought my Friedland one from Amazon. Have had it at least a couple of years and it works fine. Note though that my door is a more traditional one, not UPVC

In my experience wireless doorbells are generally awful things.

Wiring in a doorbell isn't too hard however, it's all low voltage and little cables you can put through small holes and run along skirting boards. Also, if you use a transformer you'll save time and money on batteries.
  • The last time I had a wireless doorbell, it used to ring by itself at all hours. The first 2-3 times I thought it might just be some kids mucking about, but I soon realised something else was triggering it.

To this day I still don't know what triggered it, but I just rely on a good, old fashioned door knocker now.

It was probably me when I wasn't getting a signal! :D
