Hi
Can someone please confirm what information is necessary from grandparents on a first passport application for a child (by the parent), as I understand there are new rules on this?
Thanks

Thanks. I've been asked for information by the 'ex' parent and am loathe to give any details I don't have to.0

I'm just in the process of applying for first passports for my children & all I had to provide was our names, addresses, d.o.b & passport numbers. Didn't need anything about grandparents at all. Hope this helps you.0

New application forms have been introduced that require section four to be
completed for all children irrespective of how they acquired their British
nationality, or where they were born. If the father’s details are unknown, this
may of course be left off. Where the parents were also born after 31.12.82,
the applicant will need to provide details of the child’s grandparents at section
8 or on a separate sheet of paper, so that nationality can be determined
correctly.
depends when you were born I think.Where the parents are born after 31 December 1982, the examiner should be
satisfied that the parent was also a British Citizen at the time of the child's
birth. This can be done by reference to the parent's passport details or by
reference to the grandparent's place of birth, or immigration status at the time
of the parent's birth (see also Children).0 -

Thanks. One parent was born before 31 December 1982, the other parent was born after 31 December 1982.
Does this mean that as long as the 'before' parent is able to provide their passport details, then the grandparent details are not necessary?0 -

From what's on the Passport Office site, it's only the parent born after 1982 who needs to give grandparent details.0 -
Thank you for all the replies.
The additional information was not needed in the end - as Mojisola and Flugelhorn quoted - as the parent in question was born before 31st Dec 1982.0
