Where would you recommend a villa holiday?

My parents are looking to take us all away for 2 weeks in the school summer holidays (6 adults, a 3 year old and a 1 year old) - they always like to hire a villa in a village with pool and a car rather than stay in a hotel or holiday complex. We've always gone to France, Italy, sometimes Switzerland, Germany, Spain etc, but mum has asked me to find somewhere new. Where does anyone recommend? We're looking at no more than £4000 including flights for the whole bunch of us and anything less would be a big bonus. She mentioned Croatia but a quick look at villas there seemed very expensive, we're really open to anywhere so long as we don't need to put on wooly jumpers!

ps not Ireland, hubby is from there so we go several times a year already.

Portugal has loads of villas but in certain areas they are quite expensive, not sure your budget would cover flights/villa for 2 weeks for all of you.

Is there any particular reason you need to go in the school holidays, you'll get a lot more for your money if you can travel before or after them.

We've always managed France or Italy in that, I guess I thought other places might be less expensive. Unfortunately yes, my mum is a teacher so can't go outside of term time.

OP, if you fancy Cyprus have a look at this site

    http://www.luvcyprus.com/

It's couple who run it also run a website for Italian rentals that I have used a fair few times in the past, this will be their first season in Cyprus. Their prices seem reasonable and they always give really good service.

Crete also has a good rental market and isn't too expensive.

I'm guessing Secretarybird was using James Villas or the like for prices like that?

Yes, I looked at James Villa and Villa Plus. TBH it also is not much cheaper doing it ourselves, in fact the flights even gone up since I last looked! And of course it is not as protected as a package.

Unfortunately we are stuck with a certain date in peak holiday season, I looked on Owners Direct and Holiday Lettings around Coral Bay and most of the villas were booked up already and are about £1200 per week average cost

I had a quick look on that site you gave, (I presume flights are not included?)

    Flights for 6 with Jet 2 = £2905
Villa Ionian for 2 weeks = €3,287 per week so 6574 which is about £4946.00
So that’s £7851 just for villa and flights, before transfers and food, eating out, etc.

Lol, but you picked the most expensive villa! Villa Anemoni is half that price €3780/£2838 for 2 weeks, flights with easyjet £2729 so that's £5567, £2.3k less.

TBH, I usually choose somewhere with affordable flights first, then choose accomodation. Never failed to have an affordable holiday yet.
