Do you have any section breaks in the document?
Do you have any headers or footers?
Have you checked the page layout is the same on both pages (eg if one page is portrait and the next landscape that will cause problems).


Have you tried setting up a blank document with some dummy text, and tried inserting the picture into it, to see if the problem is the picture or the original document?


If that's OK, how about cutting and pasting some of your original text into a new document, then try putting the picture in. Do you have formatting you need to keep? If not, try cutting and pasting the whole thing as unformatted text into a new clean document.


(NB whatever you do, make sure you save a back up copy first just in case!)

I would look at two things. Wrapping, and Anchoring.

The wrapping has been mentioned above.

Where the picture is anchored can affect where it appears. If it's anchored to the paragraph, that's different to being anchored to the page.

Try a variety. Sorry I've not got the time to do it myself...

With In Front of Text I can get it where I want but then it doesnt move if I insert other stuff earlier in the document. As InLine with Text then there is no anchor

There are footers and headers and sections - though not sure what purpose the sections are serving. All the pages are in portrait orientation and all have the same footer and headers other than the cover page

Do you have styles in the document?

How does the page look before you insert the picture - do you have a full page of text or is there blank space where you are inserting the picture?

What happens if you add a few blank returns before trying to insert the picture, then go back and try to insert the picture immediately after the last line of text?


Are there any section breaks near where you are trying to insert the picture? Another thing to try might be to insert a page break - continuous before and after the place where you want to insert the picture (but definitely try that out on a copy of the file not the original, because trying to rescue a document where you've messed up section breaks can be a nightmare!)

Before inserting the picture there is one more short paragraph that should fit under the image and the rest of the page is blank. At the top of the next page is a Heading 4 style header though there is no obvious reason why its going on the next page leaving half of the former page blank.

When the picture is inserted then the second paragraph drops to the next page and appears below the picture but the heading of the next topic remains on the same page so the heading style doesnt seem to drive it to be on the next page before the image is inserted

TBH, going to give up on this one and just deal with manually adjusting its location.

OK, one more thing to try before you give up - try cutting the text starting from a paragraph or two before the point where you want the picture, to a paragraph or two after the heading on the next page. Then paste it straight back in as unformatted text. If there is some stray coding, that should get rid of it. Then apply the correct style to the text and headings, and try inserting the picture again. If there is blank space that shouldn't be there, whatever is causing that is likely to be what is pushing your picture to the next page.
