Trying to edit a Word document by adding a jpg to it, its going to be one of many edits to the document so inserting it as an inline with the text picture but for some reason Word is insisting on putting it on the next page no matter how big or small I make the image (the page has plenty of room for the picture at full size but even as a 1x2px picture its movign it to the next page.
Used the Show Paragraph Markers button thing and it shows a paragraph/ return key stroke at the end of the preceeding paragraph and then nothign on the rest of the page until the image at the top of the next page.
I can botch a fix by changing it from inline to infront of text and manually placing it on the page but this means it'll have to be repositioned each time the document is editted which will be a pain.
Any ideas?

Highlight the whole document to see what shows up blue.
This might give you an indication of strange formatting going in in the lines above the pic.
If no joy, in the Home tab > Paragraph > Line and Paragraph spacing > "Remove Space After Pargraph" and see if that makes a difference.Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?0 -
Shrink the jpeg size from the corner and it should jump back to the previous page when it becomes small enough to fit. Check you don't have a huge margin at the page bottom as the default is about 2.5cm.0

Can you try with different extensions to see if that makes any difference? For instance, open the jpeg in Paint and save as a .png. Although it may be one of those weird things that Word does for reasons revealed only to those who have at least 20 million Microsoft shares.0

What happens to text you put in the same place?
Any section breaks?0 -
Have you played around in Picture Tools with 'Position' and 'Wrap Text'?0

I think I know the problem and solution. Bear with me, I'll need to make a little picture to demonstrate, and hope that our versions of Word aren't too different.
OK, you've whupped your picture into Word. Left-click on it so it's selected, and a Picture Toolbar thingy should appear, either at the top of the page with the other toolbars, or like this:
As you can see, I've clicked on the Dog-Behind-the-Blinds button (or "Text Wrapping", as Microsoft less eloquently describe it). I personally like the "Tight" option, and it's an option that works well here, too.
Hope this is it! Has saved me a lot of aggravation over the years.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
Another thing to check in the Paragraph settings mentioned by RealGem is that there isn't a 'Keep with Next' or 'Keep Lines together' set on the paragraph containing the image.0

It doesnt, there is only 3.5 lines of text at the top of the page and adding the picture as a 1x2 pixel image still brings it to the next page. Put it next to the last word of the sentence rather than below it and it drags that whole line onto the next page too.Highlight the whole document to see what shows up blue.

Nothing odd shows up when selecting all and nor are there any odd markers when checking the hidden elements
Remove Space tried both on the preceding paragraph and on the image itself and didnt change. Can you try with different extensions to see if that makes any difference? Tried TIFF and PNG neither help
Trying other random things, putting it anywhere within the text of the page causes it to go onto the next page from that point on.
Putting it above the text though causes the text to move down, certainly not the pictures normal size, but the picture doesnt display but instead a outline just in the middle of the next page0 -
Are you looking at the document in page layout view? It's worth having a quick look in draft view with paragraph marks showing, just in case that shows something you've missed.
You could also try putting the picture inside a text box to see if that helps at all.0 -

I am looking at it in Print Layout. Cant see anything obvious in Draft, but cant see any of the images either. Slightly oddly when I scroll up using the mousewheel from where the image is (top of page 29) it jumps straight to page 2 as soon as the page break drops below the screen. Dont know if its connected or just more odd behaviour.
Putting a text box in set to inline with the text and it automatically goes onto the next page too0
