Nexus 7 slow/eratic charging.

14 month old Nexus 7 2012. On 5.0.2
Ever since upgrade charging has become problematic but that may be coincidental. Up to 10 hours needed in standby to achieve full charge but sometimes quicker.
Factory reset and cache wiped using settings and recovery mode. Run in safe mode. No wacky apps installed just iplayer, BBC News, BBC media player
Tested using original 2.1a charger and cable, various 1A phone chargers and cables, Nexus7 2013 1.35a charger.
Have used a battery/doctor USB inline V/A meter to determine:-
Using all charger combinations a variety of devices charge with a consistent amp draw. In most case around 0.8/0.9A. One BT speaker with a large battery pulls 1.4A on the original 2.1A charger. All at 5V+/- 0.1. Whilst the figures may not be totally accurate they give a relative level.
Connecting to the Nexus 7 (all chargers) intially draw around 0.85A. This then drops over minutes. Numerous instances of <0.1A seen. Waking the device up will see the current drawn go back up to 0.8Aish whilst screen in use, it will hold that position in standby and then drop off again. On a 1A amp HTC charger the Nexus has pulled 1.0A for short periods but never seen on the ASUS charger.
Google provided a list of checks, all completed. Asus no ideas only interested in a return to factory at my cost which they can't quantify even at ball park level.
Any ideas?

I will wait for 5.1 before taking further cost action. Options being replace USB port, new battery, new charger.
