Number plate error on PCN

Hi all, I hope you can give me some advice.
I have received a PCN from Slough council for parking in a loading bay.
Now, technically I wasn't loading. I had to pay some money into the bank in order to make a same day payment and having failed to find a suitable space over the course of 25 minutes stopped in the loading bay and was away from my car for no more than 10 minutes.
On this basis, the PCN is probably technically correct in that I wasn't loading.
However, as I was about to pay the fine on line I have noticed that they have actually made a mistake on my number plate. The actual plate includes the letter "O" which they have included on the ticket as a "D".
Whilst I haven't decided on the morals of appealing on such a technicality am I likely to win an appeal?
Does anybody have any experience of this?
Part of me thinks that if I ignore it, with an incorrect number plate, they won't be able to trace me, but conversely if they review a photo and track me down I don't want to end up paying double. Ideally I'd much prefer to get it formally cancelled via an appeal.
Many thanks in advance,
HKS1

An incorrect digit of the VRM is fatal to PCN. Once issued, it cannot be corrected. My advice would be to wait and see if you get a letter (NTO) and hang on to the PCN.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

Thanks Tilt.
So, whilst I SHOULD be ok just doing nothing, what do you think would happen if I contact them?
Due to my general nervousness and cash being particularly tight at the moment I would prefer to be certain that it has been dealt with than just waiting to see if a £70 bill comes through the door.
If I phone and complain that I have a PCN but it appears to be for a different car am I right in thinking from your explanation that they can't retrospectively knoble me?
The description on the car on the PCN i.e. model and colour is correct.
I have entered the number VNP that they have used on the ticket into the webuyanycar website to see if it was valid and it turns out that there is such a number plate but for 1.2 Clio.
I would hate to think that a little old lady somewhere is going to get hassled for my ticket.0 -
You could appeal indicating that contravention did not occur due to incorrect VRM. If the VRM on the PCN exists then whoever gets the NTO would simply appeal it in the same way saying that they weren't there.
As a matter of interest what make/model is your car?PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

It is actually my wife's black 3 series.
The ear ache that I would get if she gets a NTO though the post really wouldn't be worth it.
The car with the number plate they have used is a blue Clio.0 -
I'd just write to the council and say you found pcn no. xxxxx on your windscreen with a VRN that doesn't relate to your vehicle or any vehicle that you have ever owned.
They will realise they've cocked up, but can't re-issue a correct pcn and will cancel the ticket and won't chase the other VRN owner.
But keep the pcn on the off chance that they try and serve an NTO0 -

It is worth it - because the NTO won't arrive. Do not pay, instead do as Orford says.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I had a similar council issued PCN with one letter incorrect.
I did nothing, held onto it, and now use it as a tea coaster.0
