Smart Meter Upgrade While Changing Provider

We're currently with British Gas for our gas and electric, I've now started a move to The Co-op as they have got a better tariff for us.
However just after I started the switch I got a phone call from British Gas saying we're due an upgrade to a smart meter and its been booked in for April.
Now when I started the application to the Co-op they asked if we had a Smart Meter which I ticked the box to say No. We should move to our new provider in March and the new would be installed by British Gas in April.
I'm just wondering if it would be better to cancel the Smart Meter upgrade for now?
Thanks

Hi - as no one else has responded here is my few pence worth. My understanding is smart meters are only smart when they are communicating with the supplier who supplied it; ie, British Gas. This will change as the new wave of smart meters are rolled out. Personally, I would tell BG that you are leaving and get them to cancel the upgrade. I would also tell your new supplier that you have a smart meter installed. BG will be taking meter readings from it up until the date of the switch. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
