To answer your original question, forget what the warranty does/dosn't cover as they normally aren't worth the paper they are printed on. In any case you have your statutory rights under the SOGA to rely on. If the defect existed at the point of sale, the seller is obliged to rectify. Clearly the area which was affected by the issue was cleaned before the sale which suggests that the seller was aware of the problem.

Be nice though when you ask him to sort it. You may need to follow up your request in writing even if he says no verbally.

    +1

    Totally this.

Believe me, the 150K plus ones are for sale because there's a big bill waiting around the corner.

Exceptions to every rule and all that, but the 1.6D is dire. The 2.0TDCi isn't that much better.

If you must have a C-Max, buy a petrol.

I stand by the 'sell it now' advice - in a year it could easily cost you as much as you paid for it.

    Totally agree with this.

Hateful engines. We spent £2,800 on a Focus with this engine getting it running right.

    Bad bad engines.

Flog it and get an old vag 1.9 tdi to beat about in.
My 01 Passat needed a sidelight bulb for last mot, and numberplate light bulb connection cleaning for mot before that.

30k a year? In that case follow BeenThroughItAll's advice and sell it.

I had the 2.0 version of that engine and it was a money pit.

Appreciate the advice but I had a Mondeo with the 2.0 version and it did 205k miles before failing without costing too much along the way.

Getting rid isn't that simple and finding a suitable replacement for the right money isn't simple either.

I am awaiting response from the warranty company and garage and will then make the decision. Will be chasing them tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the input.

Depending on when you actually bought it will depend on whether you should be even speaking to the warranty co. If it's very recent, then you concentrate on the seller as it is they who are responsible to you under the SOGA. If they choose to claim off the warranty, then that's up to them.

Good point, I've already spoken to them so will put it in writing.

    Thanks.

11 year old car with significant mileague... you'd be lucky if you can persuade anybody but Tilt that this isn't fair wear.

However, if the dealer knew of the fault and hid it I think you'd have a case to challenge the dealer on the basis he withheld material information about the vehicle.
