House moving insurance?

woolythoughts

Hi
We've just bought our first property and will be doing the move ourselves for various reasons.
Is it possible to get insurance specifically to cover the process of moving?
I'm thinking of, for example, all our possessions being in the hire van / our cars and one of them being in an accident and damaging the goods.
Or next doors great dane deciding to run into us as we move the TV to the van.

Most reasonable Home Contents insurance includes your goods being in transit0

Only whilst in transit with a professional removal company, very few if any will cover the OP moving herself in a hire van0 -

Not from the policies Ive seen, Direct Line for example is:Household removals
We will pay for loss of or damage to your contents by a cause listed under Section 2A Contents (and Section 2C Accidental Damage if shown in your schedule) while they are being permanently removed from your home to any other private property you are going to live in inside the British Isles, including while they are temporarily stored for up to 72 hours
But not
a) Loss of or damage to money.
b) Loss of or damage to china, glass, earthenware or other fragile items.
c) Loss of or damage to bicycles.
d) Loss or damage caused by any paying guest or tenant.
Nowhere is there comments on who's doing the removals.0 -
Aviva's does require it to be a professional removal company.
"Household removals
We will provide cover for loss of or damage to
contents while being moved by professional
furniture removers from the home to your
new permanent home (including temporary
storage in a furniture depository for up to
seven days in a row) in the British Isles. "
Admiral seem to totally exclude cover for removals.
Halifax require a professional removal company.
"27. Contents cover when you are moving home
We will cover loss or damage to contents when
you move home under Contents covers 1-11, and
accidental damage if you have the Contents –
accidental damage optional cover.
• If caused during household removal by a
professional removal contractor moving them from
your home to another permanent home in the
British Isles.
• While they are being held in temporary storage by
the removal firm for up to 72 hours.
The most we will pay for any one event is up to 15%
of the Contents limit shown in your policy schedule"
I think you'll find Direct Line / Churchill are fairly unique in not requiring a professional removal company.0 -
I'd like to see how they define a fragile item.0

Its not a defined term in the policy so common understanding would apply
It would almost certainly have to be inline with the other materials listed and so they'd struggle to exclude electronics other than possibly screens.
AXA are interesting in that they EXCLUDE professional removals but not self done removals other than fragile items (with a longer list)0
