Scottish power problems!

I'm looking for advice please. I've been with scottish power for three years. I got an email asking me to input my current meter readings (something I do every three months or so) and when I logged on I found that they've cancelled my direct debit meaning no money has come out since August 2014. They now want to Bill me £324 in one hit.
In anyone's experience do I have any grounds to appeal considering It wasn't me who cancelled my direct debit and according to the customer assistant "something went a bit pear-shaped, I don't know how that happened"!!!!

  • Hi I have been S.Power for many years on and off, mostly on and they have been helpful, just keep asking if they will spread the repayments, phone every hour until you get someone helpful. Did you perhaps get a new bank/credit card around that time as that happened to me, not with SP but elsewhere. If the card number changes it upsets the applecart and some payments are stopped, the bank does not tell you either.
  • Ah! I did get a new bank card! Thank you. Will phone tomorrow and ask to spread
