[UK] How badly will a debt management plan affect my ability to rent?

I entered into the plan about 2 years ago and have drastically changed the way I manage my money since then...f*ing payday loans.

My main concern is preventing my mate who I move in with and live with currently (and everyone else I know) from finding out...I am terribly embarrassed and just want to move on from that period of my life.

The place is currently rented by a friend of ours who moves out soon, the landlord lives in another country and will be carrying out credit checks to make sure we have the ability to pay the rent (we both definitely do).

Am I covered by data protection from my personal finance from being given to my friend?

How badly will this look on my file? I pay direct debits each month (phone bill, insurance and the aforementioned debts each month without fail). I am really scared that this will fall through and leave us both in the !!!!.

Should I try and speak to the guy before the checks are requested? Would this seem totally dishonest of me from keeping it from my friend? (I know I should probably tell him but really don't think I need to, it will NOT affect my ability to pay.)

Anybody who has been in this situation please help me, anyone with advice please help me. I am really scared right now =/.

Thank you.
