HELP!!! Scottish power

Hi everyone,
please i need your help! i moved into my own place last december and the current energy supplier was scottish power. I chose to just stick with them for ease as it was my first place on my own. Took metre readings when i moved in etc. rang them up to give them my details and set up direct debits too. i thought everything was ok, but a few months went by and no DD's were being taken yet. I have literally spent hours upon hours waiting in phone queues for their customer services but literally have not been answered once. I have tried contacting them online, updating metre readings online, you name it, but still nothing. it is now a year later and i still havent been charged for anything...EXTREMELY WORRIED. i took the decision to switch providers as of last month...which has now gone through and all set up as of the 26th january.

1) Does anyone know if i do get a huge bill through, whether i can reclaim any of the charges?? seeing as ive not had a single bill, statement, metre reading enquiry, at all....??
2) is there a certain time limit for them to bill me for what i have used before it gets written off?

    You .let this go on for a year w/out knowing what was going on?

    It can be difficult to get hold of these companies sometimes, but I can't believe it's totally impossible.
  • I'm having the exact same problem. Moved in to a new place in May & despite numerous phone calls, my direct debit still not set up. Recently their customer service is non-existent, I can never speak to anyone. Sent an email to their complaints dept in Dec, have chased & still no response! Will be taking it to the energy ombudsman soon, just to get a direct debt set up! Am pleased to hear you managed to switch, I presumed I wouldn't be able to since there will be a debit on my account. I think I'll attempt to switch & see what happens.

    I saw Which? rated Scottish Power as the worst energy company for customer service. I'm sure I read recently that the energy regulator were going to restrict Scottish Power from taking on new customers unless they sorted out their customer service. I for one would steer well clear of ever dealing with this company again.
  • Thanks malcnascar, however i have tried all the options i am aware of. I have called countless times (the longest i had patience for was 54 minutes on hold and i hung up in frustration), i have emailed, i have also tried their online ring-back booking system several times but not been called back once. I can log into my online account, however there is o data or details on there...i have tried entering my metre readings in and it doesnt update (tried this both at home and at work). Literally nothing has worked. I have been putting money aside for how much i assumed i was using, so i have the money saved im just not sure whether it is enough. i assumed eventually at the end of the 12 months they would bill me for the year but even that hasn't happened.

    The only way I got them to get back to me was email via there web site. There call back never worked for me they didn't return calls.
