Thanks again everyone. There are so many positive stories. So had a day at my sister's yesterday and managed to relax a little but it is full on back in panic mode today. Started contacting my creditors to let them know I can't pay. Secured messaged BC and MBNA and telephoned next so just waiting back now to hear from them!!!! Applied for a new bank account, so just waiting for that to come through but had to go in to our current bank on Friday to clear the boy's bank accounts and felt like a criminal. I hate all of this. I am more resolved to the DMP now and we do not have any other option but just want it to be sorted out. So it is my hubby's bit now to contact his creditors but a lot of his payments are not due until after the 15th so will do this as the payments are due. Feel like absolute rubbish!!![STRIKE][/STRIKE]LBM January 2015:(

Thanks Ampersand but I have had a good long chat with hubby and have realised that we need to do this and that I need to get myself together, put the plan in place and start the journey to becoming debt free. Feeling stronger tonight and know what we have to do. Sorry if I sound all over the place, I am not usually like this, but hopefully will find the resolve to be positive and do feel a bit more normal tonight. There are plenty of people in worse situations than us.[STRIKE][/STRIKE]LBM January 2015:(

Hi SoD!
Why not start a DFW diary? I honestly recommend it as you will get continued support and when you can look back and see how far you have come when your journey gets more difficult.

Ok, I have decided to keep a regular diary. I am a bit rubbish but will try as I think it will really help on our journey. Things are quite quiet at the moment on the DMP front, posted info back to SC last week and have started to let creditors know. Had notification back from two saying they will freeze interest and charges until they hear from SC however the third creditor says it will charge interest until they hear from SC - I suppose this is par for the course really. We have 4 more creditors to go whom we have written too and just waiting to hear back from them. Our new safe back account info has just come through so I have been busy changing direct debits etc. Just waiting to hear from SC to say when our DMP will start and I need to open two savings accounts but there are so many to choose from not sure who to go with!!
Emotionally I feel a lot better than I did a couple of weeks ago. I still get the anxiety from time to time but I know this is what I need to do and to be honest it is nice to be able to have some actual cash (that we have not taken from a CC). We have started a little savings pot and have managed to put a bit away as we have hardly spent anything over the last few weeks apart from food and petrol essentials. Why did we not do this sooner??? I know this can't happen every week and that we will need to spend money sooner or later but I like the feeling of being able to put money away. I am sure I will be up and down over the coming weeks as the creditors throw things our way but this thread has helped me realised there are more people than you think living with DMPs and actually paying their debts off.
So hope everyone has had a nice weekend. We have had a quiet one but relaxing although having said that my two boys and their two friends are on the trampoline at the moment so it might not be as relaxing for the next hour to so!!![STRIKE][/STRIKE]LBM January 2015:(

Whatever the situation, I find keeping a regular diary helps not only with motivation, but support as well and it helps to talk to others in the same situation, who have been there..DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

Hello there,
Just wanted to say that when I started out on my DMP in 2010, I felt exactly like you. I had never missed a payment and worried myself sick about the consequences. Originally, my DFD was 2021 but over time I have reduced this and currently it stands at early 2017 (but hoping to actually finish in 2016).
I have kept a diary from the beginning and it helps when I need to vent my feelings. I also go back to the beginning every so often to remind myself just how far I have come.
I wish you well on your journey.
Take care

Best thing we ever did was starting a DMP with Stepchange. Lost my job in 2011 and got a less well paid contract somewhere else. Spent a year like you worrying, then my wife contacted Stepchange and we haven't had any problems since. As previously mentioned, they don't judge you just help. We are 2 years in and really can't fault any of the processMy broad mind and narrow waist are slowly swapping places!!0
