Barclays Premier Life

My partner has a Barclays Premier Life account, which she pays £25 a month for. She used to have a different account with an overdraft and was being charged monthly for that. Barclays put their overdraft charges up at the time and she was told that if she signed up to the premier life account, it would cost her less a month and she would get all the benefits that come with that account. I'm just wondering, after reading Martin's email this week, if that is classed as mis-selling?
Thanks for your help!
Gareth

It depends -
If she got cheaper overdraft (and she was using the OD at the point of sale) then what they said was correct so no it wasn't miss-selling - though not to say they won't refund anyway - can never predict these things.
If she wasn't actually using the OD then yes it would be a bit excessive so worth a complaint to the bank and cancel the paid for accountSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I have no idea, however you have little to lose by asking.
Today, my wife received a cheque for over £5,600 from Barclays for two bank accounts, both of which she had many moons ago. One was for everyday expenses, the other purely for bill payments. She had no idea of account numbers or sort codes after all this time either. After speaking to a colleague at work, she filled in Barclays own online form two weeks ago, got a holding response a week ago and a cheque today. Fair play to Barclays for that, and no need to pay anyone either. She deliberately never took any form of PPI for cards or loans as she works for the NHS, but this had gone under the radar.

I was sold a packaged account by a Personal Banker for travel and mobile phone insurance back in 2007, but cannot remember the exact details. However, when in branch at a later date was encouraged to upgrade the Additions package to a Premier Account which I did and have used the travel insurance, mobile phone insurance, extended warranty, card protection but never the overdraft facility even though it was there. Last week I received a letter to say the qualifying criterion for this account has been altered to either a salary of £75,000 or £100,000 in investments held with Barclays. I have been advised that they will remove the status on 23 April and changed the contact telephone number to a 0345 number, more details to follow in summer 2015, then a further two months to review so in autumn 2015 the account will change to a Barclays Bank Account. All existing benefits will then be linked to my account unless I request changes. I have called the number and stated that I am very unhappy with this situation, particularly as the travel insurance and airport angels alone will cost more than I pay for the whole package currently. I have held my account with Barclays since 1984 and this is very unwelcome. Furthermore my sister has the same benefits via an Additions Account but has recently received all her renewal documents with no indication these are changing, which is annoying as this package costs less but offers the same cover minus the Premier Account facility. Any comments please?

Change account to one that offers the services you want, banks rely on your loyalty and sometimes take advantage of you
