Default disappeared

We are in the process of trying to get a mortgage so have been looking at our credit files.
My husband had an old account with Lloyd's with defaults and then an AP. The last default was dec 2008 and the account shows as settled in July 2010. This showed up on equifax but has disappeared in the last day or so.
We thought it would disappear 6 years after the settlement date but it seems to have come off 6 years from the default date. Is this right? Is this definitely gone to a lender who searches us?

Yes, if defaulted, accounts are removed 6 years from the default date.
A lender searching will no longer see the default. Or any eveidence the account ever existed for that matter.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Well this is amazing plus very frustrating! We literally had a natwest mortgage declined by their underwriters last Thursday because of this. We had checked experian and everything was all clear and didn't realise we should have checked equifax too.
If we had logged onto our equifax we would have seen it and not applied! We have rung the mortgage manager to explain, do you think the underwriters will be happy to accept us now? They said this was the reason for the decline, and aside from a late payment on my orange account 4 years ago (a silly direct debit error) we have no adverse at all. We have comfortably passed affordability etc.
Trying not to get my hopes up too much!0
