Laptop unuseable

Can anyone help?
I have this laptop on Windows 7,it use to work fine but now the internet has got really slow and i keep getting pop ups which is the main reason i think for being so slow. What i have decided to do is erase the hard drive and start again.
Can anyone tell me how to do this,i have just bought a Windows 7 disc, is it just a case of inserting the disc and following the instructions.
Thanks

Depending on the "pop-ups", it could just be malware or a virus.

Scan it with MalwareBytes (go directly to their site, not through a third party). Make sure it's the latest version or the program and database (it should ask you to update if necessary). You should also watch out for the free trial period (you don't want it) when you install it.

Have you run a virus scan?

adwCleaner should help clean up your browser:

If you bought the laptop with Windows 7 preinstalled, find out how to check the product key that was used to install it before you wipe everything. That way, you won't need to use the new Windows 7 licence you just bought, and can use that on another machine.
