Prepayment meters

Could be as much as 25% more. You are on your suppliers standard/ variable tariff which is the same as a credit meter. they have all dropped by approx 5% on gas the last few weeks . You cannot get the cheaper 1 year fixes which are available for credit meters.0

I first moved into my property in November 2004. Due to being unemployed and coming out of the homeless with my children i found myself in arrears thus the meters were installed.
My arrears were paid up around 5 years or more ago but am putting in the same amount as if I was in arrears
I am not sure why as myself and children are out of the house 10 hours a day and the heating is only on from 18.00hrs to no later than 22.00hrs. It is some times on longer at the weekend but no more that 6 hours a day.
I phoned british gas last year to get both meters removed as I am spending £30.00 plus a week on gas and £20.00 a week plus on electric. I asked for the meters to be removed and was refused due to credit checks.
I also asked when they will come and check both meters as this has never been done in the 10years I have lived in the property.
This is a large amount to pay per year and more annoying is that they send you an annual statement which states £600.00 year for gas and half that for electric. This is leaving me destitute as this is alot of money to be paying each week. Being a single mum I am sure I could use the money elsewhere and no wonder my credit score is poor.
Even worse they have just sent me a cash voucher for £84.00 claiming the meter had not been set up properly. Are they refunding me at £8.00 per year ? Not sure.
Please advise as I am ready to address with ombudsman
