Passport: Countersigning a photo and sending off...

Hi, I have looked at the amount of txt needed to sign a photo for a friend, i am going to have to do very small hand writing! Are there any guidelines that the signature has to be exactly within "any" borders. The photo's are on a strip of 4, with no obvious borders. I don't think that my friend should cut down the photo's in case he invalidates them for passport office? Would the passport office expect strict guidelines , not re: the photo sent, but whether the photos are sent as cut into individual portions? thank you for any help

They are supposed to be cut and two of them sent off. There are no inner borders for your writing on the back of the one you are countersigning.
Presumably this is their first passport? If its a replacement one then normally the photos dont require countersigning as long as they still look like the same person as their last passport0 -
For peace of mind, it might be worth using the Post Office Check & Send Service. £9.75 in addition to the passport fee.Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Only if you want to throw money away and cannot read. Their service is terrible and predominately proven by the fact they are only willing to bet their fee on the fact they get it right and not any of the other costs you may incur by them being wrong.thank you both, they do need a photo really it is their first as an adult, and the current photo, is as a 14 year old...just concerend how small to cut the photos' to, whether there are guidelines?
My understanding is that its not their first passport so a countersignature will only be required if they have changed so much that someone may doubt its the same person. The IPO helpline is actually fairly good, though the queue to get through can be long
The guidelines say the right size but if you are really worried then places like Happy Snaps have a cutter for passport photos, generally a couple as different countries have different size requirements. I am sure you'd get them to do it for a few coins or a charitable donation but really it isnt hard to follow the guidelines0
