buffet food for vegetarians

Hi, I am organising a buffet next month for around 60. I am ok for sandwiches and snacks for the meat eaters but not so good for the vegetarians.

so far I am making cheese sandwiches, egg may sandwiches, cheese and onion rolls and cheese and pineapple on sticks but what else would you do? The cheaper the better x

if you are serving meat eaters and veggies, expect the meat eaters to consume a fair percentage of veggie food. So you need to make enough for the veggies AND enough for the meat eaters to have some.

    Tortilla or frittata? In chunks

samosas or other small fried folded filled flatbread type things (empadas etc)

Polenta - large chips sprinkled with herbs or cheese and baked.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

    Mini Onion Bhajis
    Mini Spring Rolls
    Mini Pizzas
    Veg salads
    Chips & veg dips, guacamole
    Bombay Mix
    Japanese rice crackers
Potato skins with cream cheese and crispy onions or soya bacon bits
    Veggie sausages
    Mini veggie burgers

    ... making me hungry :)
  • Pizza would be good, fairly cheap to make/buy and would be good hot or cold.
Vegetable spring rolls maybe? They're normally pretty popular with everyone (not just vegetarians!)
Or tuna for sandwiches or little tarts.
I'd also have some falafel balls with a dip, these could be served either hot or cold too.

Are you having sweet things too? Most cakes/biscuits would be okay for vegetarians, so you could maybe get away with less of a savoury selection if you had these too.

Good luck, hope it goes well :)

    Not tuna. It's a fish.

Look out for frozen party foods in supermarkets & Iceland. These are often cheap, bulk packs that will save lots of prep time.

If you make your own vegetarian quiches, please remember not to use lard in the pastry.;)

Wrap rolls, take a wrap, cover it with cream cheese, add strips of red pepper and a handful of green leaves (rocket, spinach etc), then roll tight, wrap in tinfoil and refrigerate for a couple of hours. Then unwrap and using a very sharp knife, slice in 1/2 cm (1/4 in) thick slices. A pack of wraps and some value cream cheese will go a long way.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

make sure the cheese is vegetarian cheese for the fussy ones like me :o
as long as I get pickled onions and plain crisps I'm happy.
a few veg kebabs would be a nice extra.
Had hot wedges and dips at a funeral buffet once.:j

    Wrap rolls sound yum!

A nice variation on a cheese sandwich is to finely grate the cheese then add in some finely grated apple too. It can be a bit wet depending on how much apple you add (I suppose you could grate the apple then squeeze it out a bit in some muslin) so you might want to assemble them last... they are so worth it!

Veg samosas and spring rolls are nice and you can get huge bags of them cheaply if you have a decent Asian shop nearby.
