British Gas's 5% reduction is a sham
5% is not much, but I looked forward to it as a rare experience of getting something from one of the Big 6.
Alas, it wasn't to be. This is part of a recent reply from BG:
"I would also like to inform you that your energy account is registered on our Price Promise July 2015 tariff. We have decided to reduce the price of gas by 5% for our residential customers effective 27 February 2015. However this reduction will be passed to the customers who have their account registered on Standard tariff or Fix and Fall June 2016."
So, don't be fooled by BG's apparent largesse. It's a sham.
Is anyone on Standard Tariff? Are most, like me, on another excluded tariff?
Comparison sites, here I come.

Most customers are on standard tariffs. Especially those who stick to the local default suppliers Gas with BG and electric with the electric board. Nearly all customers on PPM are on standard tariffs. Unfortunately when you sign up for a fix there is no point complaining when your prices fall. You FIXED them. If another tariff is cheaper by time you calculate any cancellation fees are added then switch.0 -

You signed up for a fixed tariff, this means that your prices will neither rise nor fall. I suspect this will be the same for all customers of all the companies on fixed tariffs and really shouldn't be a surprise to you.
If prices had gone up would you be rushing to write them a cheque for the difference ?0 -
Its not a sham as said your on a fixed tariff so price wont rise or fall until your fixed tariff ends
If you leave early you may find you might have to pay a fee

Early termination fees apply: £50 (inc. VAT) for gas, £50 (inc. VAT) for electricity (a total of £100 for dual fuel).
