I see your point .. partial dentures are a nightmare!
Had 3 lower front before a bridge was fitted, ate a curry one night and they were dayglo green for 3 days!
Ended up begging my dentist to fit the bridge..
But for full extractions , top bottom or both I am trying to reassure people it is not the end of the world.
    Bottom are the hardest
Full dentures are never as good as your own teeth but in some cases they can be pretty darned good and fitted correctly you can eat virtually anything you want to and look a whole lot better
I have been told here is a connection between gum disease and other health conditions ?

Yes but if you are removing a few teeth you need to take impressions, then impressions in a special tray and take a wax bite, then try what teeth you can in , then fit the dentures. Yes immediate dentures are fitted when the teeth are taken out but you have to go through the other stages first.

Op is on benefits so nhs dentures and adjustments will be free of charge. The lab does the lab work and the dentist the clinical work in most nhs practices.
Hope you don't mind me asking.
Does a dentist have more training than a clinical dental technician when it comes to the fitting and production of dentures ?

    Do you ?????????????

I've not done anything on the NHS since April 2006.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I'm of the generation of dentists that learned to make our own dentures and started work when dentures immediate, full, partial were a lot more common than they are now.

I've probably fitted over a thousand dentures in my career so far , however that amount has dramatically slowed down in the last few years and I do a lot less denture work now.

Newer graduates have less experience in dentures, particularly full dentures , as far fewer people lose all their teeth these days, and far fewer need dentures. Indeed the art of dentures is a dying one and dentures will be less and less widely done in future years.

As CDT s have only been around for a couple of years and will see far, far, far fewer people than a NHS dentist did when I qualified I would be amazed if a CDT would be anywhere near that level of experience.

However it has to be said there is a magnitude of difference between what a NHS fee will buy in terms of a denture and what a typical CDT charges and can produce for that charge. NHS dentures are produced to a budget and what a CDT can produce is entirely up to what someone wants to spend. In our area starting around £1000 for a set of full dentures going up to £2000
