Prepayment Meter in Credit
Never knew I could check my usage and topups online with Scottish power so signed up to the website.
Checking my statements it shows I am in over 200 of credit after actual billings!
Just encase it was a mistake I went back to a date I know my meter was read by someone.
Again it shows the credit after actual billings!
I can't even remember what I last received a statement but I know this has been on my account for atleast a year
(i can't see back on website) and few quarter increases by a small amount
Called up Scottish power, the guy told me it was due to me being on prepay and how my statements are produced.
I get what he was trying to say and I know exactly how it works
but I finally talked him round to taking meter readings over the phone and recalculating, guess what?
over 200 in credit!
He said I was right but they would have to investigate this and it takes around 3 weeks.
How is this the case?
My mother who is on direct debit gets her rebates back really easy and with no fuss.
I used to pay by direct debit however the home I moved into few years back had prepay.
Also should I get my hopes up?
What's the chances of an error somewhere?

I think it all just shows up as credit till it gets deducted at the end.
I wouldn't get your hopes up.0 -
When does that happen? Every 3 months I see an actual bill and it still shows the credit amount remaining after usage is deducted.
Also the customer service member took latest readings on phone and recalculated and still, shows credit.0 -
How can you be in credit on a pre pay?
You pay in, the meter uses it. The only credit you have is what is displayed on the meter.
The only time an online account shows a credit AFAIK, is when they show your top ups as credit which are deducted when either they create a bill, or they take a reading.
If you think I'm wrong, ask them to send you the cash and see what they say. It can't hurt.0 -
im having a similar problem.
i noticed i was topping up more often than usual,so logged on and it stated i was around £500 in credit. after i contacted scottish power the guy said they would send out a bill and investigate the issue.
i received the bill and to my horror it turns out i payed £165 for gas in january. it has worked out now that since the 31st of jan, i have topped up £50.. ive called twice since and scottish power have not given me any answers to as why its costing so much.
i can 100% say that the times and usage of my gas has been no different to December in which i only paid £100.
the 1 thing i did notice was that the c.v code on my bill says 39.100 and on my meter is says 39.900. could this be the problem?0 -
Just go by what you see on the first screen "A" on the meter. Thats whats in credit on the meter unless you re going to be in receipt of the warm home discount of £140 in future0
