Transfer money for the deposit

Hi all,
I am looking to buy a flat in London and I am ready to go, got my Mortgage approved in principle, I am going around looking for flats and, in the moment I'll find something I like, I would like to proceed placing an offer.
Given that, the savings I will use to pay the deposit are currently abroad, in a Euro country where I was born.
Of course, the amount to move is quite important and for that reason I would like to do things in the most convenient (and safe) way.
Could you suggest the best method to transfer money to the UK? Sorry if this is not the right forum, I didn't find anything better.
Thanks!

Cheapest is to use an FX broker such as those listed on https://www.fxcompared.com . Safest is to use a direct bank-bank transfer. Your call on which to go for.
You might consider getting some quotes from FXCompared, then calling your bank and trying to make a deal. If a load of Euros unexpectedly hits your account they will just apply the default rate (probably pretty bad); but if you've negotiated a rate in advance they should be able to override this. Make sure you know where the EUR-GBP conversion takes place though - it will probably be your UK bank that receives EUR and converts to GBP.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0
