Cheap Energy Club - is it?

I have had a look a this especially the grand claims in the weekly newsletter.

I have compared a few rates that the Energy Club offers with the rates that the companies themselves offer and they seem to be identical.

I live in South East London and the Sainsbury's tariff either doesn't appear on the list or is so well down I didn't look that far.

In general if something is making grand claims for the whole country then they make certain that it applies to London and the South East as a lot of people live in this part of the world and it is perceived as a very important part of the country.

If the Cheap Energy Club just takes the existing rates then I consider that very poor.

Surely you should be using these vast numbers to negotiate a group discount off every energy provider of at least 10% - then it would be truly worthwhile joining and switching.

Otherwise it seems an awful lot easier to use say Energylinx or another comparison site and get your cashback that way.

Am I missing something?

    Hi BarryW99

You're right, in general the rates offered by going direct to suppliers should match those which you'll see on Cheap Energy Club (although you wouldn't normally get cashback for switching directly).

However with a collective switch, the big difference is that these tariffs are only available through Cheap Energy Club - you can't get them through any other site or by calling the supplier directly.

The information around the special collective tariffs is available at this link

I hope that helps to explain things for you.
  • Dan L,

    I am still confused.

    Let's make things simple.

We will ignore everything apart from the unit rates and standing charge which to me are the only things that matter.

If I tfr to say Sainsburys direct will I pay the same as if I switched via the Cheap Energy Club.

If so does this apply to all the others eg Scottish Power, E,On etc or is there a list of suppliers where the Cheap Energy Club has a discounted rate.

If none of the above have a discounted rate what is the point.
  • I joined the Cheap Energy Club today and it projected a saving of £332 on my dual fuel bill. However when I followed the link to the Green Star site they projected a saving of £98 per month, which over the year would represent a saving of only £73.

    What's going on?

the so called Cheap Energy Club deals, want me to pay more than £200+ MORE !! on their so called cheap deals,

I,m on the Eon v14 fixed 1 year, to me NONE of these so called special deals are worth even looking at. and the Sainsbury deal doesn't even show as its not for electric only customers

EPIC Fail on this occasion, at least for me anyway. hopefully for the few out there someone may find it of use

The tariffs which are part of the Big Winter Switch Event II are only available through Cheap Energy Club. You won't be able to get these elsewhere.

All other tariffs are available through our site or directly with the supplier. The main difference being that through Energy Club we offer £15 per fuel cashback, plus we'll alert you when you can save again by switching.

Hope this clears things up for you.

you can also get cashback for ANY provider you switch to by using quidco or topcashback for most its up to £30 for duel and around £15 for single, and some like npower u can get £66 or was the other week as a friend of mine used it on topcashback, so there are still some big cashback going around albeit not many

so its not only MSE u can get cashback from

and its not hard to see why MSE seem to push people with the "switch now" as MSE get £60 commission for each and every switcher, so I can see why they so keen on this CHEAP ENERGY DEAL, even tho it was utter false in my case, saying it was more than £200+ more EXPENSIVE short and long fix with green energy

don't get me wrong, mse do get the word out there to save money at times, but telling people to switch after just 1 of the big 6 cut prices was kinda wrong, esp when some have penalty fees, if another worked out cheaper

before the sell off MSE had the stance of "WAIT UNTIL THE OTHERS have cut their prices THEN COMPARE"

whats changed?? oh yes u now get commission of up to £60 I forgot

    Hi NittyGritty

We've tried to be as transparent as possible about how we make money from switches. The full info can be found in this week's email and also on the Big Winter Switch Event II information page.

I followed the link from the Cheap Energy Club (CEC), which believed connected me to the rates offered by the CEC. How else should I have done it? Is there another link? Please explain.
