DDs to pay credit card in full

When is the best time to set up the DDs to pay my credit card bills in full, before I get my next statement or before I pay the current statement, which if I do will that be paid?

Due to be paid on the 5th and 15th of the month.
over 73 but not over the hill.

Since they'll generally (always?) only collect by DD if the message is on your statement saying they will, I'd suggest setting it up the day after your statement is produced. It should then be in place before the following statement, and will collect on that statement's payment due date. You can verify it is in two ways, but the first is the most accurate...

    1. Check the statement
    2. Check the list of DDs in your online banking area.
