Hi everyone!
It's obvious, even to me, that I'm shocking at budgeting my money through the month.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Dannii :)

  • Take your 400 and divide by number of weekends until next pay day. Then that's how much you can spend each weekend. On a 5 weekend month, you'd get a little less per weekend but stick with it and you will use up all your money just in time for the next pay day.

    Save £12k in 2017 #016 (£4212.06 / £10k) (42.12%)
    Save £12k in 2016 #041 (£4558.28 / £6k) (75.97%)
    Save £12k in 2014 #192 (£4115.62 / £5k) (82.3%)

for months with 4 weekends then SAVE up money a fair bit of money

for months with 5 weeks than SAVE some money but a little less than 5 weekend months

    simple.

after a year or so you should have a decent amount of money saved up so you can buy your parents a nice christmas present

What do they teach pupils these days? What are "they" capable of teaching pupils? God help us, should he or she or it or they exist.

The calculation itself is dead simple, and anyone doing GCSEs should be able to do.

I tried not to judge the OP's plan, although I certainly was shocked to start with.

Having said that, I did see:

and took that to mean "after all the bills, and savings, and investments, and pensions I'm left with £400...", because no one would be silly enough to be blowing £400 a month every month on going out without having some sort of plan for the future :)

If money is tight, try staying in (or go on cheaper nights out) on one weekend in each of the months with five weekends, that would only be four quiet weekends a year!

Some months have 5 weekends, say I get paid 20th March then I'd be paid Monday 20th April the following month.

What's the best way to budget for this? I tend to go out on a Friday &/ or Saturday night btw and am quieter during the week.

Treat every month as a five (or more) week month and use what's left over to build up savings?
