Part time carer

Hello since my carer moved out I have been trying to find someone else to care for me, I was told by housing benefit that if I can find someone to stay at least 3 nights I can reclaim full housing benefit once again.

I have found someone who is a friend of the family and I need to provide details to housing benefit of who he is and what days he is staying over, they never said to provide his address and he is currently between relatives sofa surfing he also works part time but they said that wouldn't be affected, he would probably need to use my address for his mail which I cant see being a problem, but if I ask him to move in would it then affect my benefits with him working part time? He probably wouldn't claim carers allowance though.

Thanks

He doesn't have to have mail sent to your address for being an overnight carer and if he does move in, your own benefits may be affected by losing the severe disability premium of your ESA claim if applicable.

The info' you have received ask for it in writing 'cause it sounds like pub talk to me.

I presume you are receiving DLA middle rate care or above with you mentioning carer's allowance.

Since your carer moved out and if they were claiming carer's allowance you should now be receiving extra in your benefits 'cause you live alone, if not contact benefits dep't and request an IS10 form to apply for a Severe Disability Premium (SDP) which will increase benefit entitlement by up to £61.10 pw depending on any other income.

Depenending on whether you rent privately or from a housing association you receive 1 bedroom rate of LHA for private rented property or you may be affected by the bedroom tax if having more than 1 bedroom if a housing assoc'.

If you require an overnight carer and someone does stay overnight regularly request an overnight carer form from your council, complete it and you should be assessed for the 2 bedroom rate and therefore increasing your HB entitlement.

    Hope this all makes sense.
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

    2 options then.

Overnight carer form if someone stays regularly or apply for a discretionary housing payment at your local council office which is a fund intended to help people in your situation if they are struggling to pay the extra money towards their rent.

Council offices should help you with applying.
