Lodger

Hi
I am looking for any recommendations as to where to advertise for a lodger; I have an advert on Gumtree and spareroom.co.uk. Is it worth paying for other sites?
I am Leicestershire and finding that a lot of sites are London-centric, which is to be expected, so just wanted some recommendations really. I am happy to pay to a certain amount for advertising, but really am looking for what has worked for other people.
Thanks in advance

Spareroom is the best. Easyroommate is another to try but less people use it.
I hope you didn't put your phone number on gumtree. If you did, get ready for spammers, scammers and general weirdos.0 -
Thanks inatdeepend - no I didn't put my telephone number on!0

I'm sure some people have managed to find normal okay people through gumtree... Just not heard from any of them!0

Spareroom and Easyroommate have worked fine for us.
Whether you pay for their premium services really depends on demand in your area, if demand is high a lot of people will be spending a while looking for places and/or will have paid the sites themselves, so you can get away without needing to (we have a new lodger moving in in a couple of weeks, he contacted us via our free spareroom ad 5 minutes after it went live).0 -
I sourced six lodgers in Nottingham using Spareroom; although it is London-centric I found there are also plenty of people looking elsewhere.
Each time I paid to have an advert up for a month or so and always found someone within that time period.0 -
We've found all ours through gumtree or friend of friends. Only one weirdo so far, and he was a friend!0

Have used easyroom and spareroom both worked for me. Think carefully about the kind of person you want to be sharing with your home. So far ive been incredibly lucky. Currently got a young doctor doing his rotations, and a police officer studying for a phd. Two conciousness and trustworthy people, both found through one of the above sites.0
