Anyone recommend a good washer/dryer?

Please?
I know that washer/dryers tend to be a bit iffy, but we've no room for separate units and need both as we've two small children.
The current model we have is a cheapo one, Ariston, lasted about 18 months and is now on the blink.
Any advice, recommendations for a reliable one if such exists?

I think these are really misunderstood appliances. I have had a Hotpoint for about nine years and it has just had one new set of brushes in that time. I dont dry all my washing in it even in winter but especially love the fact that it's there if I need it. All I would say is that I never overfill it when drying and try to do more than a half load. So from personal experience this has been good.
However my friends have all become members of a club that I remain an outsider of which is the Miele machine owners club! Only one has a washer drier but it does seem to be a rolls royce and when mine finally bites the dust I am gonna look at this model although more expensive.0 -
I have Indesit for 5 years and am happy with it.
WHICHextra recoomend the following
Washer-driers : Best Buy guide
Washer-driers aren’t as good as a separate washing machine and tumble drier. But we have found two models that clean well and are pretty good at drying.
The AEG L16810 gets clothes as clean as our Best Buy washing machines. You couldn’t ask for more features – there are easy-iron and hand-wash programs, variable spin speed, delayed start, and a program-stage indicator. However, it struggles to rinse clothes thoroughly.
Drying isn’t on a par with our tumble drier Best Buys, but it is more effective than most washer-driers. It dries evenly but creases more than a tumble drier would. To make up for that, though, it’s a breeze to use and fairly quiet, too. It is available online from £450.
(The AEG L16810 will soon by replaced by the L16820, which is the same except for minor cosmetic changes.)
The Zanussi ZWD1480W also cleans as well as a Best Buy washing machine. It’s not brilliant at rinsing clothes, but it is better than the AEG.
And, for a washer-drier, it gets clothes impressively dry. It’s not as good as a Best Buy tumble drier, but it is better than any other washer-drier we’ve seen. It’s also easy to use, and one of the quieter machines. The price has dropped since we tested it: it’s available for £380 from Currys.
