    Afternoon all!

    I see the thread is busy today!

    Hope all the poorly people feel better soon.

    Today I started work late (finishing later though) so I managed to get a few things done this morning. So today I have/will:
    * Check banks DONE
    * Check TCB DONE (SURELY IT'S GOT TO BE PAYABLE SOON!)
    * Not have second cuppa until at work DONE
    * Change bedding DONE
    * Wash bedding on a quick 30 degree wash DONE
    * Hang up clothes DONE
    * Put bleach down loo DONE
    * Bleach sink DONE
    * Take lunch to work DONE
    * Fill water bottle up at work DONE
    * Go for a walk on lunch break DONE
    * Dinner from stores (annoyingly forgot to take naans out of freezer before I left but I'm not buying any more!)

    Sorry - my lists seem to be more my housework list than money saving! But at least it makes me do things!

    Think that's everything for today as don't think I'll get much done tonight by the time I get home!
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,100
    Total paid off - £10,500.89 (67% paid off)

    Afternoon Frugal Friends,
    Busy morning doing all the jobs which are still doable whilst one is supervising hedgecutters. Today's small money saving things:
    *Sorted out my yukky roots, using the half pack of hair colour I saved from last application. (Saves at least £2-50 a time).
    *Saved energy by doing laundry on timer overnight & finishing drying yesterday's on heater airer. That Economy 7 tariff needs to be hammered as it's half the daytime rate.
    *Payday so Big Budget Day today. Reconciled January's budget. Set February's. The unknown quantity will be car insurance which is due on 22nd. Haven't had renewal quote yet. Have left a sum of money to cover this, but will get some quotes ready for when I ring up to haggle.
    *£10-02 underspend on January's grocery budget, even once I'd bought energy saving bulbs, so paid across to savings.
    *Remembered NOT to take out cash to pay Clothes Piggy this month as I spent that money on a new dress. Must not have selective memory where clothes shopping is concerned!! :-/
    *Underpaid the Presents Piggy by £10 because I have Amazon vouchers from surveys which will buy 2 presents this month. Paid it into savings instead.
    *Renewed our annual pass at local gardens. £30. Thought about it, as want to save more this year, but we do visit regularly, starting with the lovely snowdrop walks & we only need to go 3 times to more than have covered the cost, so seemed like good value.
    *Paid a credit card bill in full.
    *Did a few surveys.
    *Had the soup & granary cobs I made yesterday for lunch. Dinner as per meal plans......turkey chilli from freezer & jackets, using the leftover Christmas turkey. It's a really nice recipe & freezes well.
    *Made tomorrow's packed lunch & breakfast.
    *Contacted friend to finalise tomorrow's meet-up. Make a list of things to do in town while I'm there rather than have to pay more parking later in the week to go back & do all the jobs I forgot.
    *No heating on downstairs till 5pm.....except towel radiator....& even that's drying a pair of socks! Everything has to earn its keep in this house!
    Definitely time to put the kettle on for a steaming hot mug of rhubarb tea!
    DNMS & CLF - Sorry to hear you are poorly. We seem to be avoiding lergies so far, but now I've said that, I'll probably go down with the plague from hell. Hope you both feel better soon. LPP - You sound like you could be starting to turn a corner with yours....hope so.

    2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
    Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

    Hi

    My children are making me laugh by reminding me how easy I am to scam.

    Screaming with laughter here. They are so right.

    I have just failed to spot a client being scammed, fortunately the accountant spotted it and once noticed it was obvious. I am so dull!!!

    Anyway client never got done so all ended well.

    Tonight I aim to eat well and get an early night and try to sleep until 6. Please! DH fixed wm, nothing serious, but unnerving in a machine under 3 months old.

    DD leaving for uni tomorrow and I will miss here, and miss sorting out her new passport £72.50, collecting her lenses from optician £0 and so it goes on.

    Speak soon.

    Maria

  • You should try out this tool called unroll.me...it's free, and online, and it unsubscribes you from all the newsletters you don't want and collects the ones you do into one email! Saved my inbox.

    I'm at work today...feeling poorly (in the unwell club too!) with a cold but going out after work to a cheap eat in Soho with a school friend. She's doing dry January so I won't drink which will keep the cost down and the cold at bay. :A

    Thanks I'll look into that. I have managed to cull more than 100, I'm keeping a tally going to see how many I can delete before the end of the month, I've also been unsubcribing from newsletters I'm no longer interested in.

  • A late posting from me.

    Today I:

    1. took the car to work as I have lots of petrol in the car but not enough in the bank for train fare.
    2. reduced credit limit on a store card that I haven't used for a year.
    3. packed lunch x 3
    4. taking car to work also saved me from putting kids to breakfast club.
    5. promoted my wee business a little over the last week and got some new orders

    I think that's me for now.

  • What a busy thread today! Get well soon to all who have the January germs. MMM - sorry to hear about your uni application, it must be disheartening, but you need to look into your other options.

    Feeling good today, lots of things achieved. My list for today:

    Item sold on eb@y posted - the highest value item sold at the weekend, I was getting a bit worried that payment wouldn't come. Final item now paid for - which means another trip into town at lunch tomorrow (I would be great if they all paid before Monday to save taking separate trips)
    Helped DD complete her homework due in tomorrow - couldn't do as much as we wanted to yesterday due to PC issues. At least it's done now.
    All meals from stores
    Prepared lunch for tomorrow
    Load of washing done at 30 degrees quick wash, now dried and put away too
    Flylady mission done, shined sink and some extra cleaning too
    Requested Next account to be closed (blalance has been paid for a few months but hadn't bothered to close it)
    Signed up to my doctors online - which means I can order repeat prescriptions online rather than having to call in
    Filed breakfast club payment receipt straightaway (instead of leaving on my dresser for weeks)
    Meal planned for approx 2 weeks and wrote a shopping list, will go at the weekend (probably Sunday, so it doesn't go on my Jan grocery budget!)
    Checked bank and updated YNAB
    Checked BB and PCL (one day, one day!)
    Heating off at around 7pm, which is the earliest in weeks

    I think that's it - I'm just happy that I've ended the day not feeling totally frazzled and overwhelmed at everything still left to do. Doing small things everyday is the key :)
