Tuesday 27 Jan 2015. What small dfw stuff will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important

    Morning all

    Up early, all machines on and dog sat on my feet having a carpet morning.

    3 hours to work. Not sure what to do next. Think I will read the other threads.

  • I am going to take DD across to Nanny's if she behaves at school for an hour as I need to ring the dentist and rearrange my appointment next week (use my Nan's phone, very MSE) ;). Plus we will get tea there so free food :p. I am working at 10:30am while 2:30pm so got to nip to Asda before I take DD to school and get a few bits (milk, bread, philly cheese) and then take her to school. Will wash pots when back from Asda (if time allows) so I'm not sat around browsing the net (using electric). Got some washing to do so will do that later and pop it on the airer to dry as I doubt it will dry outside and we have no tumble dryer.

  • Morning maria & middflirtuk! Thanks for starting us off maria :D

    All my plans at the weekend were dashed as I was struck down by a virus and felt shocking for 3 days! Have slept for 3 days solid between crying (I really do not handle being ill very well! Have very low pain threshold!) Feeling much better today but am going to take the day off just to rest and get better properly.

    While resting I will:

    * submit meter readings
    * have checked banks - no surprises
    * make flapjacks, fritatta and squarish wrap pizzas for dgd's packed lunches
    * cook jackets while oven is on for quick dinners during the week
    * read my book
    * watch a film
    * put onesie on as it is like being on a tropical island rather than putting heating on
    * contact plumber and see if he'll come and repair our pipes under the sink
    * contact guy that does odd jobs for us and see if he'll come and do some bits - have about a day's work to do...
    * all meals from stores
    * hang up some washing

    Ok not too much to do as want to just rest as much as possible. Have a lovely day x

    Morning DFW-Jedis,

    Well, life goes on, as does the almost everlasting quest for solvency and sanity. I've got today off so I need to strike a delicate balance between haing fun and getting things done.
    I need to try to work through my To Do list without moaning or getting (too distracted).

    Thanks for the starter Maria. Get well soon DNM.

    The List

    :starmod: [STRIKE]Check online banking and reconcile monies. [/STRIKE]Received refund for damaged goods.

    :starmod: Check mobile broadband and broadband remaining allowances.

    :starmod: Do i-Say surveys.

    :starmod: Post book I sold on eBay for £3.40 profit.

    :starmod: Turn off electric alarm clock at the wall til tonight.

    :starmod: Give door a second coat of PoundShop paint as I didn't do this yesterday.

    :starmod: Read news online instead of buying a paper.

    :starmod: Take the harddrive out of a 'dead' laptop before putting it on eBay.

    :starmod: Went to the dentist yesterday to get broken filling fixed before it (a) caused me pain and (b) got worse and cost me a fortune. Cost me £24.50 for a check-up, x-rays, filling and scale and polish, which I think was reasonable.

    :starmod: Put in results of RSPB Bird Watch. Free entertainment.

    :starmod: Source new toothbrush heads. Need to be really careful about this as, according to reviews/feedback on eBay/Amazon, there are lots of counterfeit heads that fall apart in days.

    Freebies

    :starmod: Free de-icer for O2 customers. It's in the Travel section. (Link)

    Well that's me for today. Good luck on your quests, Jedis.

    Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning All
    Thanks for starting us off Maria. So sorry to hear you are ill Determined. At least you have your lovely holiday coming up to look forward to. But in the meantime take care of yourself.

    Hi Miss Flirt & Ally

    Well was pleased to wake up to my first ebay sale of 2015. It is only a small cook book for £1 plus a bit over in postage. But it has been for sale since around October with zero interest so Horray! & ticks my decluttering boxes too.

    The agent that arranged our life insurance who we've been with for around 10 years & done various mortgage, remortgages through, is sending us some money for taking out the policy. I saw from the docs she is getting a good chunk of commission but I don't begrudge her for having a well paid job. Quite excited to see what she sends though as she hasn't said.

    Have to find & arrange a telecoms provider for my business as I had stopped the previous provider. I want cheap & short contract. Think Talk talk is looking a good option?

    Will have plenty of time today to get on with operation ebay. I plan to try and get a whole box of comics on today. Will probably need the 6 hours I have!

    Have a good day all.

    Am still up. Not had a doze, which is a shame, this is going to be a long day.

    WM and Dw on again. An ominous flood coming out of back of just fixed under 3 months old hoover washer. Oh dear. I am ignoring it. DH will be up soon and he can get his feet wet and I can be amazed! Am practising saying Oh Dear, sympathetically. I just can not be bothered to turn it off and make water enquiries,:mad:

    So, yesterday we never did baby clothe sort out. We crashed and made lists instead.

    Today we will:
    sort baby clothes.
    sort out when I am going to deliver the clothes, or how much to post. Probably £30 and as fuel for a trip is around £60 this would justify a trip. :)

    Andy Murray is about to start his match against the Aus baby boy. So I will find out tonight how he does. Hope he comes through in 3 sets and lets is all breath.:j

    Speak later. Maria

    Morning folks!

    Thanks for starting us off Maria - hope your DH can fix the washing machine

    DNMS - sorry to hear you're not well.

    Unfortunately I'm part of the not well club too. The horrible cold from the weekend turned into snot monster at work yesterday. It must have got in my ears though because I went all dizzy and I had to be taken home (love my work mates - we always look after each other :) ). I was going to go in this morning, but the more I moved around, the tireder I got. Need to be on top form as I'm flying to Aberdeen for a conference tomorrow!

    So today's plan:
    • Sofa day
    • Will be in to sort the veg box when it arrives (in the next hour or so) - ooo arrived just after I typed that!
    • Pay window cleaner
    • Bit of crochet if not too woozy
    • Pack bags for Aberdeen and look for passport
    • Keep an eye on work emails
    • Check online banking
    Have a good one folks :)

    Morning all :)
    Thanks for starting the thread Maria, and hope that the water coming out of the back of the wm is simple to fix when your OH gets up!
    Have a good day DNMS, don't blame you for taking the day off when you have been so poorly :(
    MissFlirtuk - I don't have a tumble drier either, (never have) but I find that putting the washing out, except when it is raining obviously, or otherwise really damp, dries it to a certain extent even at this time of the year, and reduces the time on the airer and the amount of damp/ condensation to cause issues inside. So, I look outside, and if the path is dry, out it goes :D

    For me today:
    Showered and hair washed using product stash
    Washer on
    Bread maker on
    Dog and chickens fed
    Dishwasher emptied

    All before I made coffee this morning - go me :D

    Still to do:
    Check banks Done, no surprises
    Cleaning - lounge today, plus anything else that looks particularly messy :eek: Did lower flight of stairs as well
    Decluttering - tackle the trunks in the bedrooms today. I have one huge one, big enough for a whole gaggle of grandchildren to hide in, if it weren't full of blankets, sheets, duvet sets etc, and a smaller one. I have too much bedding, including items that don't fit any beds that I have now :o Needs sorting. Failed - got stuck on the paperwork :(
    Sort paperwork in letter racks, as currently they are stuck on top of a big deed chest in the dining room, and I would like to keep my sewing machine there instead of in the bedroom where it doesn't get used. I am half way through this, but have sorted the appliance instructions, guarantees etc - I had instructions for appliances that died years ago :o
    Ring and cancel unused credit card Done
    HM meals from stores Done
    Right, another coffee then I must get on!!

    Hope everyone has a good day :)
